Wouter Hendrix enters his ninth season as Lehigh’s Howard J. Talmud ’77 Head Men’s Tennis Coach. In eight seasons with Lehigh’s men, Hendrix owns a 106-79 record. He has led the Mountain Hawks to their first ever Men’s Tennis Patriot League title and NCAA Tournament berth in school history, earning him Patriot League Coach of the Year honors. He also served as the Lehigh Head Women’s Tennis Coach from 2014-2017, compiling a 31-27 record. Prior to becoming the Head Men's Coach, Hendrix spent the previous four seasons as the Assistant Coach for the Mountain Hawks’ Men’s and Women’s program as well as Director of the Lewis Tennis Center.
During the abbreviated 2019-2020 season, Hendrix coached Zack Elliott to two Patriot League Player of the Week honors. The team earned the highest GPA of all Men’s Teams at Lehigh with a 3.70. Seven members of the team made Dean’s List. Nine team members made the Patriot League Honor Roll. Five members earned Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Scholar Athlete Award, and the team made ITA All-Academic as well as the NCAA APR Public Recognition Award.
In the 2018-19 season, Hendrix led the Brown and White to a 13-8 record. Five individuals received ITA All Academic honors. Sam Bencheghib won the Patriot League Men’s Sportsmanship Award. Seven Mountain Hawks were named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. George Cooper was named Academic All-Patriot League for the third straight season, and Harry Wang and Zack Elliott were named Second Team All-Patriot League. Zack Elliott was named Patriot League Player of the Week. Jacob Edelchik was named to the Top 125 players in the nation by the ITA. The team reached the semifinals of the Patriot League Conference Tournament.
During the 2017-2018 season, George Cooper, Bryant Born and Juan Martin-Dyer received ITA Scholar Athlete Honors and the Team made the ITA All Academic list. Cooper also garnered Patriot League Academic All League honors. Four Mountain Hawks made the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, and the team received NCAA APR Public Recognition. Jack Petersen and Harry Wang earned All Leage selections. Petersen also won Player of the Week twice. Chris Auteri recorded a ten match win streak in singles. The team reached the Patriot League quarterfinals.
Hendrix guided the men to an impressive 2016-2017 season which included a 15-6 overall record. The Mountain Hawks reached the Patriot League Semifinals for the seventh time in the last eight years. Jeremy Kochman and Jack Petersen earned All-League honors, while Ethan Bogard landed on the Academic All-League team.
In 2015, Hendrix led Lehigh to a 12-10 season. The Mountain Hawks went 9-3 at home with seniors Ben Gilman and Mitchell Petersen leading the way. Gilman capped his career with 101 combined wins in becoming a four-time first-team All-Patriot League selection. Petersen led the team in singles wins and was named to the Academic All-Patriot League team. Jeremy Kochman joined Gilman in earning All-League honors.
In 2014 the Mountain Hawks went 12-8 and reached the Patriot League semifinals for the fifth consecutive season. Lehigh went 10-5 at home as the Mountain Hawks had established a home winning streak of 18 straight matches that spanned three seasons. Ben Gilman was named first team All-Patriot League for the third straight year while senior Mark Goldberg capped his senior season by earning All-League recognition.
In 2013-2014 Hendrix led the Mountain Hawks to their first ever Patriot League Championship and a bid to the NCAA Tournament at Ole Miss, earning him the 2013 Patriot League Coach of the Year Award. Lehigh compiled an 18-6 record and went undefeated at home for the first time in program history. Hendrix saw Gilman earn All-Patriot League first team honors, while Goldberg and Mitchell Petersen were named to the second team. Matt Savran was named Patriot League Tournament MVP while Andrew Krentz was named Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year for the second straight year. While working with Lehigh’s men’s program, Hendrix was part of a pair of record-setting seasons in 2011 and 2012. In 2011, the Mountain Hawks defeated Patriot League rival Navy for the first time in over 20 years and advanced to the Patriot League Championship match for the first time in school history. The 2012 season saw Lehigh defeat Army for the first time in more than 30 years.
In his three seasons as the Lehigh Head Women’s Coach, Hendrix compiled a 31-27 overall record. During his head coaching tenure with the Women’s Team Christina Auyeung was named a three-time first team All-Patriot League member, a 2017 Academic All-Patriot League selection in 2017 and was tabbed the 2015 Patriot League Rookie of the Year. Sibel Can became the second Patriot League Rookie of the Year honoree under Hendrix's guidance when she earned the honor in 2017. Jamie Campisi was a three-time Academic All-Patriot League honoree, while Auyeung earned Academic All-League honors in 2017. In 2015, Hendrix coached the Lehigh women to their first Patriot League semifinal appearance since 2009. Hendrix completed his term as Head Coach of the Lehigh women's program at the end of the 2016-17 season after spending three seasons at the helm.
In addition to his coaching duties, Hendrix served as the Host Coach for the Ed Krass College Tennis Exposure Camps and as the Head Tennis Professional at Silver Creek Country Club.
A dual citizen of the United States and Belgium, Hendrix earned his Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Lehigh University in 2010. He also holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Conflict Management from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in his home country Belgium, as well as a Master’s Degree in “Europe and the World Studies in Expansion, Exchange, and Globalization from 1500-2000. Hendrix holds a Bachelor’s Degree in History from the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in Belgium.
Hendrix is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) and Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) Certified Professional.
