Joe Zelechoski a Lehigh grad, ('73 BSEE/'78 MBA) moved into the role of volunteer assistant coach for the men's golf program in January 2020. He moved into his new role after 14 seasons as the Assistant Men's Golf Coach at Lehigh.

"I will continue to attend practices and travel to some golf tournaments.," Zelechoski said. “I am not going away. I enjoy this too much.”

“Coach Z” is a left-handed 6 handicap who has been playing golf since he was in fourth grade.  He enjoys competing in amateur events at the state and local level.  He has played courses from around the world. Some of his favorites are The Old Course at Saint Andrews, Pine Valley, and Pebble Beach.

Zelechoski is especially proud of the 2013 Mountain Hawks’ Patriot League Championship win and the three players who have each won college tournaments during his tenure. Zelechoski feels that the Lehigh Men's golf program is attracting better and better student-athletes each year.

"Lehigh offers both an excellent educational opportunity to prepare yourself for your chosen career, but also a very competitive golf environment competing at the Division I level,” he said. “At this level, the ability to score with the short game and good course management is so much more important than hitting it a mile.  The mental side of golf is also very important to play your best. These are some of the important areas of the game that Head Coach Henry D'Alberto stresses."  Coach Z very much enjoys sharing the Lehigh golf experience with the team.

Coach Z is retired from PPL Corp, a Fortune 300 company, where he was Vice President of Supply Chain.  He tries to stay active.  In addition to his golf game, he enjoys competing with his Quarter Horse, Sonny in Western Reining/Cow Horse. For his 60th birthday, he went skydiving.  He has run the Mt. Washington Road Race four times in the last 15 years.  In his spare time, Coach Z enjoys traveling with his wife, and visiting with his two sons' families and grandsons. His collie Simba love to do anything that Joe is doing.
