Cooper Wins Title, Six Mountain Hawks Place at PA Collegiate Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Lehigh women's wrestling had 10 student-athletes competing at the Pennsylvania Collegiate Wrestling Championships Saturday at ESU's Koehler Fieldhouse. Five Mountain Hawks reached the finals, highlighted by a championship at 117 by Abbi Cooper.
As a team, Lehigh finished in third place with 39 points.
Cooper won all three of her bouts by technical superiority, including a 14-4 finals win over Yianna Foufas of East Stroudsburg. This is the second tournament title won by Cooper at ESU. She also won the ESU Open in early November.
Lehigh had four runners-up including Hattie Mack (103), Mary Manis (138), Makynna Loepp (145) and Cameron Millsapps (160).
Manis, Loepp and Millsapps went 2-1 Saturday, while Mack had a bye to the semifinals, where she beat Lock Haven's Summer Batts 10-4.
Also earning a podium place for the Mountain Hawks was Avery Hines, who went 2-2 and finished fifth at 117 with a 7-2 win over Washington and Jefferson's Madilyn Enterline in the fifth place bout.
In total nine of Lehigh's 10 entrants won at least one bout. Leila Sidhu won her first bout at 124 before forfeiting out of the tournament. Shannon Govern went 2-2 at 131. Skyler Gassel went 1-2 at 138 and Natalia Accorsi also competed at 131.
The Mountain Hawks return home to host Presbyterian Friday at 7 p.m. inside Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall. Tickets can be purchased at LehighTickets.com.
