CORALVILLE, Iowa – Lehigh's five qualifiers competed on day one of the inaugural NCAA NC Women's Wrestling Championships Friday at Xtream Arena. All five Mountain Hawks won at least one bout Friday as Lehigh crowned its first three All-Americans in program history, and put two wrestlers in Saturday's championship semifinals.
Lehigh's semifinalists are Audrey Jimenez (110) and Aubre Krazer (131). Abbi Cooper also is guaranteed a top eight finish and All-America status after bouncing back from a quarterfinal loss with a victory in the second consolation round.
Jimenez, the top seed at 110, posted a pair of technical superiority victories to reach Saturday's semifinals. She defeated Elmira's Abby Duke 10-0 in 1:37 in Lehigh's first NCAA Championships bout, and later became the program's first All-American after defeating Adriana Gomez of Colorado Mesa by technical superiority. Jimenez will face No. 5 seed Nyla Valencia of Iowa in the semifinals.
Krazer began her day with a 10-0 technical fall over Allen's Isis Severe, and then grinded out a 3-2 decision over West Liberty's Cassia Zammit in the quarterfinals. A takedown had Krazer up 2-0 at the break. She later scored on a stepout, but gave up a takedown before holding Zammit off late. Krazer will face Aurora's Alexis Janiak in the semifinals in what will be a rematch of the Midlands final won by the Mountain Hawk.
Cooper won 11-1 over Grand Valley State's Kiely Tabaldo in her first match, but could not hold a 4-0 lead against No. 3 Riley Rayome of North Central. Rayome scored nine points in the second period to rally for the 9-4 win. An 8-5 win over Alexandra Waitsman of William Jewell secured a podium finish.
Kryssceah Ravenelle (138) and Genevieve An (180) both went 1-2 at their first NCAA Championship appearance, with both wrestlers dropping first round matches to top three-seeded opponents. Ravenelle came back to pin the No. 6 seed Jaclyn Dehney of New England College, but was eliminated by the No. 5 seed Jacinda Espinosa of Lindenwood. An ran into top seed and World Team member Kylie Welker of Iowa before coming back to defeat Kara Kuge of Wisconsin-Stevens Point 10-0. She was eliminated by Gannon's Isabella Phillips.
Lehigh finished day one in seventh place with 31 points. McKendree crowned 10 All-Americans and leads the team race with 94, while Iowa is second at 91.5
