BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Freestyle season cranks back up for members of the Lehigh wrestling team, with nearly 20 Mountain Hawks slated to compete this weekend at USA Wrestling's U23 Nationals and U20 World Team Trials at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio.
Â
Action for both the U23 and U20 age groups begins Saturday with the U23 competition set to conclude Sunday. Sophomore Luke Stanich will represent the Mountain Hawks at the U20 World Team Trials. Stanich awaits the winner of Saturday's U20 challenge tournament in a best-of-three finals series after winning the US Open U20 title in late April. If Stanich wins his best-of-three series, he will represent the United States at the U20 World Championships, Aug. 18-24 in Sofia, Bulgaria.
Â
As many as 18 Mountain Hawks could compete in the U23 Nationals. The U23 World Team spot at each weight will automatically go to a Senior National Team member at that weight. If no National Team member is eligible at a given weight, the spot will go to the winner of this weekend's tournament. A complete list of probable Lehigh entrants can be found below.
Â
Preliminaries for the U23 Nationals begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday with action continuing throughout the day. Sunday's action begins at 10 a.m. with quarterfinals and will conclude at approximately 3:30 p.m. when the best-of-three finals conclude.
Â
Stanich will wrestle in the best-of-three U20 championship series, beginning at approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Â
