Lehigh Falls To Lafayette In Series Finale

EASTON, Pa. – Lehigh baseball faced off against rival Lafayette on Wednesday afternoon to conclude the season series with the Leopards. The Mountain Hawks fell by a score of 19-6 in seven innings.

Lafayette (12-26, 8-8 PL) reliever Owen Basso earned the win for the Leopards, striking out six in 2.0 innings. Lehigh (17-18, 6-10 PL) starter David Andolina was credited with the loss.

The Mountain Hawks had a strong start in the top of the first inning, sending three runs across home plate. Owen Walewander delivered a two-RBI single followed by an Edwin Betances RBI single that put Lehigh ahead 3-0. However, the Leopards put together an eight-run bottom of the first to take a five-run lead after one.

Aidan Quinn added another run in the top of the second with an RBI double, but Lafayette responded with a double of their own in the bottom of the frame. The Leopards then put up ten runs over the next two innings to take a commanding 19-4 lead. The Mountain Hawks would score two additional runs in the seventh and final inning.

Jake Whitlinger, Raffaele Rogers, Quinn, Walewander, Trystan Crawford, Cadeyrn Ahearn and Betances provided the hits for Lehigh. In addition to Andolina, Julio Ermigiotti, Grady Golier, Max Treonze and Jake Mulvehill appeared on the mound for the Mountain Hawks.

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday to host Bucknell in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. from J. David Walker Field.
