Shoup Scores Six In 12-10 Win Over Holy Cross

WORCESTER, Mass. - Gracie Shoup netted six goals as the Lehigh Mountain Hawks took down Holy Cross 12-10 on Saturday in Worcester.

Lehigh jumped out on an early 2-0 lead with 11:43 on the clock as Angelina Pino and Grace Martel tallied goals for the visitors. The Crusaders responded with two of their own as the game was knotted at 2-2 with 8:29 left in the first quarter.

With six seconds on the clock, Pino scored a man-up free position goal as Lehigh took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.

The second quarter was an even 3-3 run for both teams. Pino tallied one goal and Shoup started off her stellar day with two goals in the run as Lehigh led 6-5 at intermission.

At 11:04 in the second half, Shoup kicked off the scoring, completing the hat trick and extending Lehigh's lead to 7-5. The next goal of the contest came at 5:54 as Holy Cross began inching closer to tying the score.Â

Shoup struck again with 2:54 on the clock, giving the Mountain Hawks an 8-6 advantage. The Crusaders scored to bring them within one again, but Molly Snow rounded out the third quarter with her lone goal of the afternoon, giving Lehigh a 9-7 lead.

Opening the fourth quarter, Shoup put another one in the back of the net as Lehigh grabbed its biggest lead at 10-7. Holy Cross responded with a goal before Shoup put Lehigh back up three, leading 11-8. At 3:03, the Crusaders scored a free position goal to come within two down 11-9.

Kacie Wines thwarted the desired run by Holy Cross, scoring goal number 12 for Lehigh. Holy Cross was not done as they scored with less than a minute left, but Lehigh held on to secure the 12-10 Patriot League victory.

Goalkeeper Julia DeLitta had a dominant performance in net, recording 13 saves, often at pivotal points in the game. The Crusaders' Mackenzie Creagh tallied 12 saves.

Holy Cross won the draw control battle 22-4 with Brynn Freeman securing three. Camilla Madonna led Lehigh with four caused turnovers.

Lehigh (5-7, 2-4 PL) returns home to the Ulrich Sports Complex to host Navy on Wednesday at 6 p.m. The game will be Lehigh's Pride Day presented by Lehigh's Pride Center and the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging.
