Lehigh Hosts Lafayette In Weekend Rivalry Series

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute returns to J. David Walker Field this weekend for a series against the visiting Lafayette Leopards. Lehigh will play four games of baseball against the Leopards over the course of the weekend.
Game one begins at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 28 from J. David Walker Field. The two teams will play each other in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday, March 29 before a single game on Sunday, March 30 at 12 p.m. will conclude the weekend series. Lehigh students will receive free pizza in between games one and two of Saturday's doubleheader.
Lehigh (11-11, 1-3 PL) last played on Tuesday against Rider, falling 8-5 in the first round of the Liberty Bell Classic. In their opening weekend of Patriot League play, the Mountain Hawks dropped a doubleheader to Holy Cross on Saturday and split a doubleheader against Army West Point on Sunday. Sophomore Liam O'Hearen threw a complete-game shutout with 11 strikeouts in game two on Sunday, earning Patriot League Pitcher of the Week honors.
Junior catcher Owen Walewander currently leads Lehigh in batting average at .317 on 20 hits with 15 RBIs, seven doubles and two home runs. Junior Aidan Quinn leads the team with 19 RBIs while senior Jake Whitlinger has hit a team-high four home runs.
Starting on the mound on Friday for the Mountain Hawks will be sophomore Julio Ermigiotti. Junior Cole Leaman will take the mound for game one of Saturday's doubleheader while O'Hearen will start game two. Lehigh's Sunday starter is TBD.
Lafayette (4-20, 1-3 PL) fell in their Liberty Bell Classic first round game on Tuesday 13-9 to Delaware. The Leopards had a similar weekend to the Mountain Hawks to begin the Patriot League slate, dropping both games of their Saturday doubleheader with Army West Point while before splitting Sunday's doubleheader against Holy Cross.
Easton Brenner has been fantastic for the Leopards this season, batting .355 on 27 hits with five doubles, a triple, three home runs and a team-high 19 RBIs. Ethan Swidler leads the team with a .352 batting average on a team-high 31 hits.
Joe Skapinetz will take the mound on Friday for the Leopards. Trace Florio will start game one of Saturday's doubleheader while Tristan Helmick gets the nod in game two. Patrick Walega is set to start on Sunday for Lafayette.
