Mountain Hawks Defeat Villanova 5-2 In Second Straight Win

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Having not competed at home since March 2, Lehigh men's tennis returned to the Lewis Tennis Center on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Villanova Wildcats. The Mountain Hawks secured the opening doubles point and ÂÂÂÂÂwon four of six singles matches to win 5-2.
Marc Blekhman and Sean Jaeger kicked off doubles play for Lehigh (7-6) with 6-3 win over Villanova's (3-13) William Monahan and Justin Frattarelli at number one. Shortly after, Rafael Gracie and Jackson Morash earned a 6-3 win of their own at number three to capture the doubles point for Lehigh. Jose Murariu and Luke Donovan's match at number two was left unfinished.
The Mountain Hawks also got off to a hot start in singles, winning three matches in a row to clinch the dual meet win. Sean Jaeger picked up a quick two-set win at number three, Murariu defeated Monahan in two sets at number two and Blekhman defeated Michael Fourticq in two sets at number one to seal the victory.
Following the clinch, the Wildcats picked up their first win of the day at number four in a hard-fought three-set victory over Gracie. Benedict Horn-Bourque then added another point for the Mountain Hawks with a one-set 8-2 win at number six. The day concluded with an 8-6 victory at number five for the Wildcats.
The Mountain Hawks return to Patriot League play on Saturday, March 29 on the road against Navy. Matches will begin at 11 a.m.
