4/19/2024 11:01:00 AM | Football
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh football team will be back in Goodman Stadium Saturday for the annual Brown and White Game. Admission is free for the event, which begins at noon as the Mountain Hawks will showcase their growth and development in year two under head coach Kevin Cahill.
Â
Spring practice began in mid-March with the Mountain Hawks changing up their schedule. Student-athletes and staff have been up early during the week for 6 a.m. practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturday workouts during spring ball have been held at 10 a.m.
Â
Saturday's Brown and White Game with the noon start will mark the 15th and final of Lehigh's allotted practice sessions.
Â
"As a program we wanted to continue focusing on us," Cahill said of the program's goal's entering spring ball. "The Nest of Lehigh Football is growing every day. The players have been focused on what they can handle and control. Playing football at Lehigh is an honor. These players have raised the standard of what is expected on the day to day."
Â
Through the first 14 practices, Cahill has been pleased with the growth he has witnessed.
Â
"We have grown a lot in 14 practices," he stated. "Our goal was to focus on our fundamentals and show growth from practice one to the end of spring ball. We have shown that growth in many position groups. That focus will not stop on Saturday, it will continue through the summer."

Saturday's Brown and White Game will feature a variety of situational scrimmage situations pitting the offense against the defense. There will also be positional drills and special teams work. Breaks in the action will offer opportunities for community engagement, with fans having opportunities to catch punts or kick field goals among other activities.
Â
"Football and fun in the greatest stadium around," Cahill said. "We will get our work in. We will work on the situations we need to work on. We will also look to have fun and have some fan involvement. Alumni, kids, parents – all spectators will be welcome to participate in portions of our Brown and White Game. Contests and competition will be alive and well on Saturday. We look forward to showing everyone what it means to be a part of The Nest."
Â
Prior to the start of Saturday's Brown and White Game, Lehigh will award the Jim Gum Scholarship, which is presented in memory of former Lehigh football player James S. Gum '84.
Â
The Mountain Hawks core of returnees includes rising fifth-year linebacker Mike DeNucci, a two-time All-Patriot League selection, junior safety Nick Peltekian, who earned all-league laurels last season and 2022 Patriot League Rookie of the Year Geoffrey Jamiel. Lehigh returns 40 letter winners including its leading rusher (Luke Yoder), four of its top five receivers, and seven of its top eight tacklers from a season ago.
Â
Lehigh will open the 2024 season at Army West Point on Friday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. The Mountain Hawks will play six games at Goodman Stadium, beginning with a Sept. 7 visit from Wagner and culminating in the 160th meeting of Lehigh-Lafayette on Nov. 23.
Â
Season ticket renewals began earlier this week with new season tickets going on sale on Monday, Apr. 22.
