
Win Streak Extends With Victory Over American In Patriot League Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team topped American 11-9 to secure its first Patriot League win on a rainy Saturday afternoon at Ulrich Sports Complex.

Senior Olivia Memeger had a day, leading Lehigh with six goals. Graduate student Gabby Schneider chipped in three goals and three assists.Â

Lehigh jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first quarter, featuring two goals apiece from both Memeger and Schneider plus senior Emma Fiore's first of the contest.Â

The Eagles opened the second quarter with their first goal of the contest before Fiore claimed her second of the game less than a minute later off an assist from Schneider.Â

American went on the three goal run to close out the first half, as the Mountain Hawks led 6-4 at intermission.

Memeger opened the second half scoring 20 seconds into the third period, netting her third of the game to give Lehigh a 7-4 lead. American capitalized on a woman-up opportunity shortly after and added another, decreasing the Mountain Hawks' lead to 7-6.Â

With 9:29 left in the third quarter, Memeger tallied her fourth goal off a free position. American struck quickly to bring the game within one before tying it up 8-8 as the third came to a close.Â

American grabbed its first lead of the game with 8:45 remaining. Memeger responded with the tying goal as her fifth of the game just over the seven minute mark.

The Mountain Hawks were awarded a free-position shot at 5:41, with Schneider completing her hat trick and netting the go-ahead as Lehigh led 10-9. Memeger capped off the day with her sixth goal as Lehigh closed out the 11-9 Patriot League opening win.

Senior goalkeeper Hayley Hunt recorded six saves and scooped up three ground balls. Graduate student Cassie Marte led the Mountain Hawks with four caused turnovers and eight draw controls, inching closer to the Lehigh career record with 13 to go.
