Goal-Scoring Frenzy Lifts Lehigh Past Bucknell 15-8

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team picked up another Patriot League win, defeating Bucknell 15-8 at the Ulrich Sports Complex on Wednesday night.

The Mountain Hawks were led by a six-goal effort by senior Olivia Memeger while graduate student Emma Eberhardt contributed five goals.

Graduate student Cassie Marte kicked off the evenings' scoring, giving Lehigh a 1-0 lead at 13:43 in the first quarter. The Bison responded with a goal of their own before Lehigh went on a two-goal run facilitated by Memeger and Eberhardt, taking a 3-1 lead with just over three minutes left in the quarter.

Bucknell and the Mountain Hawks traded goals to round out the opening quarters as Memeger secured her second of the game and a 4-2 lead heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, Eberhardt tallied two goals and Memeger completed a hat trick as Lehigh led 7-4 at intermission.

Both teams netted two goals apiece in the third quarter with Memeger and first-year Grace Martel putting Lehigh up 9-6 heading into the closing quarter.

The Mountain Hawks exploded on a five-goal run to open the fourth quarter, taking a strong 14-6 lead. Graduate student Gabby Schneider and Memeger claimed two goals apiece in the run while Eberhardt added one.Â

Bucknell scored two quick goals but Eberhardt's fifth and final goal sealed the victory as Lehigh earned the 15-8 Patriot League win.

First-year Brynn Freeman was a force on defense, holding Bucknell's top scorer in Allie Boyce to one goal and one assist. The rookie also led the Mountain Hawks in ground balls (6) and caused turnovers (5).Â

After becoming the program leader in career draw controls last game versus Loyola, Marte picked up nine draw controls on the night. In the net, senior goalkeeper Hayley Hunt made 14 saves and picked up five ground balls in the victory.

With the win, head coach Jill Redfern picked up her 150th victory at the helm of the Lehigh women's lacrosse program.
