Black Knights Spur Second Quarter Comeback To Take Down Lehigh 19-7

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Despite Lehigh's 5-2 lead after the first quarter, Army's eight-goal second quarter proved to be too much as the Black Knights topped Lehigh 19-7 on Saturday at West Point, N.Y.

Lehigh was led by graduate student Gabby Schneider with two goals and two assists while senior Olivia Memeger chipped in two goals. Preseason Patriot League Midfielder of the Year Brigid Duffy tallied seven goals and two assists for the Black Knights.

Army claimed the first goal of the afternoon before Lehigh went on a 5-1 run, taking a 5-2 lead after the opening quarter. Schneider netted her two goals of the afternoon in the run while graduate student Emma Eberhardt and Memeger each added one apiece. First-year Shannon Nolan capped off the quarter with her first collegiate goal off an assist from first-year Molly Snow.

The Black Knights awoke in the second quarter, going on an 8-1 run to lead 10-6 into intermission. Memeger tallied the lone goal for the Mountain Hawks.Â

Lehigh netted the first goal of the third quarter, with graduate student Cassie Marte putting it away as Army led 10-7. The Black Knights responded with a goal of their own as the low-scoring quarter closed out with Army infront 11-7.

The closing quarter featured eight goals from Army with Duffy contributing four as the Black Knights secured a 19-7 win over the Mountain Hawks.

Senior goalkeeper Hayley Hunt had nine saves, two ground balls and one caused turnover before junior Julia DeLitta relieved the starter for the final 4:20.

Lehigh (6-4, 2-2 PL) remains on the road for a matchup next Saturday at noon with Boston University.
