Mountain Hawks Drop Contest To No. 8 Loyola 11-5 In Three Quarters

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - A rainy Saturday matchup between Lehigh and No. 8 Loyola was called after three quarters due to unplayable field conditions, with the Greyhounds earning the 11-5 victory.
Lehigh started off hot with a 2-0 lead after the first period led by a pair of goals from first-year Molly Snow. The opening period was the first quarter Loyola was held scoreless this season.
The Greyhounds exploded on a 9-2 run to close the first half, with graduate student Gabby Schneider netting both goals for Lehigh.
Loyola struck first in the third quarter, taking a 10-4 lead with 10:27 remaining. First-year Grace Martel responded with a goal for Lehigh off an assist from Schneider, decreasing Loyola's lead to 10-5. Loyola capitalized on one more goal to take an 11-5 lead.
Graduate student Cassie Marte capped off the rainy afternoon with a record-breaking mark, claiming Lehigh's program record in career draw controls with 253.
The officials called the game at the conclusion of the third as Loyola secured the victory.
Loyola was led by Sydni Black and Georgia Latch with three goals apiece.
Senior Hayley Hunt made four saves and had three ground balls before junior Julia DeLitta took over with 6:42 remaining in the contest, recording two saves. Loyola goalkeeper Lauren Spence picked up five saves, two ground balls and one caused turnover.
Lehigh (5-3) returns home at 6 p.m. on Wednesday for a midweek matchup with Bucknell at the Ulrich Sports Complex.
