Lehigh Falls To NJIT In Final Meet Before League Play

NEWARK, N.J. – Lehigh men's tennis traveled east for one more dual meet prior to the start of Patriot League play next weekend. The Mountain Hawks faced off against the NJIT Highlanders, falling by a score of 7-0.
Lehigh (6-7) dropped the opening doubles point to NJIT (13-3) after falling 6-2 at both the number one and number three spots. Jordan Paul and Sean Jaeger were able to earn a 6-4 win at doubles number two, but the win came after one and three had already concluded.
The Highlanders, who had wins over three Patriot League schools entering Saturday's contest, opened singles play strong. NJIT's Oscar Callo Von Platen started things off with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Paul at the number five spot followed by a three-set decision for Pablo Perez Ramos over Matt Kleiman at number one. Leading 3-0 in the match, a two-set victory for Nejc Skorjanc over Aristotelis Bezianis, which included a tiebreak in the second set, sealed the deal for NJIT.
Although the match's result had been decided, the rest of the singles matches were played to completion. Marc Blekhman dropped a three-set result to Wil Jenkins of NJIT while Sean Jaeger fell in three sets to Pavel Petrov at number four. Finally, Jackson Morash battled Ashwin Kanetkar to three sets, but fell in a tiebreak to conclude the dual.
The Mountain Hawks return to action next weekend for the start of Patriot League play, traveling south to take on the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds on Friday, March 29. Play is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. in Baltimore.
