ORLANDO, Fla. – Lehigh men's tennis concluded play from its spring break trip to Orlando on Thursday afternoon, matching up against Division-II side Emporia State University. The Mountain Hawks cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Hornets.
"Great bounce back win for the guys," said head coach Craig Schwartz. "The conditions were hot and humid, but we really stayed within ourselves and got it done. It's always great to win a match 7-0. We look forward to getting back to Bethlehem and working hard toward our goals."
Lehigh (6-6) had begun every dual meet with doubles play up to this point, however, Thursday's match started with singles play. Marc Blekhman got things started for the Mountain Hawks at number two with a swift 6-1, 6-2 win over his adversary from Emporia State (6-4). First-year Benedict Horn-Bourque was next to claim a point for Lehigh with a two-set win at number six followed by Matt Kleiman's two-setter at number one.
Leading 3-0, the Mountain Hawks were able to clinch the dual meet win with two set wins from Jackson Morash and Jordan Paul at five and four. Although Sean Jaeger's match at number three went to a third set, he was able to win 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2 to sweep the singles points.
Kleiman and Blekhman took care of business in their doubles match at number one, earning a 6-0 decision. Luke Donovan and Morash earned a 6-3 win at number three shortly after, awarding the Mountain Hawks their seventh point of the afternoon to sweep the Hornets.
The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 23 for a meeting with the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Play will begin at 12 p.m. in Newark.
