Lehigh's Four Match-Winning Streak Snapped in Loss to Johns Hopkins

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Lehigh women's tennis saw its four-match winning streak stopped, as the Mountain Hawks fell 4-3 to Johns Hopkins Saturday night at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. 

The Mountain Hawks fell to 5-2 on the season, and the Blue Jays improved to 4-0. 

It all came down to the last match as Kamila Wong defeated Giselle Vlassis 7-6, 6-3 at the No. 6 singles spot. 

Lehigh was winning 3-2, but the Blue Jays won the final two points after Samantha Wang defeated Hannah Letzer at No. 5 singles. Letzer won the first set 6-2 but lost the next set 6-4 and fell 10-8 in the final set. 

Despite the loss, Lehigh started out strong, picking up the doubles point after winning all three doubles matches. Allyce Gaborik and Maggie Forkner bested Ashley Chang and Sophia Kim 6-4, Anushka and Megha Dania defeated Samantha Wang and Jay Ziao 6-0, and Audrey Harrington and Letzer picked up a 6-4 win over Wong and Sydney Langer. 

For the first time this season, Forkner played at the No.1 singles spot, and she picked up a win, besting Mary Beth Hurley 6-2, 6-2. 

Anushka Dania, the reigning Patriot League Player of the Week, picked up the third and final point for Lehigh as she defeated Jay Xiao 6-2, 6-2 at the No.4 singles spot. 

Gaborik lost her match 6-3 in both sets, falling to Ashley Chang at No.2 singles and Megha Dania suffered a 6-1 loss in straight sets to Langer. 

The Mountain Hawks will be back in action Sunday at 2 p.m. at Binghamton.
