LEWISBURG, Pa. - Lehigh men's soccer picked up a point on the road as the Mountain Hawks tied Bucknell 1-1 Saturday night at Emmett Field at Holmes Stadium. Saturday's game was an important clash in league play, as Bucknell came into the match in first place, and Lehigh was in second place. With the tie, Lehigh is now 4-6-2 (2-1-1 PL) and the Bison are 4-4-2 (2-0-2 PL).
"I was satisfied with our performance," said head coach Dean Koski. "I thought we competed well and played the way that we wanted. The one exception is we would have liked to retain the ball a little bit more, especially in the first half as it put us under a little bit."
Senior midfielder Perry Kingson continued his dominance as he netted the opening goal in the 35th minute off of a penalty kick after Lehigh was fouled in the box. Kingson has now recorded seven points in the last three games.Â
The Mountain Hawks didn't hold their lead for long as Bucknell's Ben Sheffeld netted the equalizer off of a corner kick in the 42nd minute.
Junior midfielder Beckett Wenger helped Lehigh retake the lead in the 53rd minute after first-year Aiden Gonzalez found an open Wenger off of a throw-in. There were two balls on the field, which caused some confusion from Bucknell, but the goal would ultimately stand.Â
While Lehigh led 2-1, the Bison once again were there for the equalizer after Drew Roskos connected on Bucknell's second straight corner kick in the 65th minute. No team was able to break the deadlock from there despite numerous chances.Â
Bucknell held a 14-8 advantage in shots, an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal and a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks. Kingson and first-year Giacomo Zizza led the way with two shots apiece.Â
Senior goalkeeper Blake Koski played outstanding, recording a game-high of six saves. Bucknell's Freddie Lapworth tallied one save in net.Â
"I think he did the job he's capable of doing," Koski said. "That's what you need from your keeper in these games."Â
The Mountain Hawks will return to action on Friday versus American at 6 p.m. at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Friday's game will be broadcast on ESPN+.Â
"We have great respect for American and their coaching staff," Koski said. "We know this will be a tough game. Certainly we need to get guys healthy and get some rest, but we will have our eyes set on American."
