Trey Sheeler: We began the day with breakfast in the hotel after a long night of sleep, recovering from the travel the day before. Afterwards, we were given free time until the game in the afternoon. A few of us decided to take the train into the center of the city to explore. We went to Marienplatz, where we walked around and marveled at the historical architecture. It was an incredible experience seeing so many unique buildings and noticing the attention to detail that each one had. The atmosphere of the square and the surrounding streets made it feel like we had stepped into another world.
After the game, we had dinner at the hotel and cleaned up. Later, we were given free time again, and we took advantage of the awesome metro system here to head back into the city. The entire men's and women's teams went to a local pub together, where we enjoyed some food and drinks. Overall, it was a great experience, and I really appreciated the opportunity to bond with my teammates while also experiencing the rich culture of Munich.
Thomas Sharkey: On Monday, we began the day by going to visit the Bayern Munich campus, which is where the Bayern Munich youth teams, Bayern Munich II, and the Bayern Munich women's team practice and play. We saw their stadium, then watched the women's team practice, then walked through a little bit of the buildings where some of the staff worked and were eating lunch. I really enjoyed this visit because I used to watch uefa youth league games that were played inside the stadium that we saw in these first two pictures. Also a lot of soccer legends and current pros came through this academy so it was awesome to see the place they grew up around.
Next, we went to a park and were told to go out on our own and meet back up in a few hours so me and a few teammates just walked around and then got something to eat at a nearby restaurant. After that, we hopped back on the bus and went to the main part of the city which is very touristy. Once again we were told to go out on our own for a few hours so me and some teammates went around to explore even though we already somewhat knew the area from walking around there earlier in the trip, but there was still a lot we hadn't seen or done. We first climbed up a tower that was connected to an old church which took a while because it was very tall. Once we got up we were met with a super cool view of the city. We then went back down and stepped into the connecting church.
Then after that we went to a soccer store and looked at some jerseys and cleats which were awesome. Finally, we met back up as a group and had our first team dinner that was not in the hotel. The food was traditional German food but what I got was questionable. Overall, it was a very fun day and I had a good time with the team.
