Kent Neureiter: Today was an early morning departure. Many of us had never heard of the Neuschwanstein castle, so our expectations were low, and we were skeptical of whether the long bus ride would be worth it.
However, at some point along the way, we were able to see the beautiful mountains in the horizon and the skepticism disappeared. These mountains were a combination of the Allgau Alps, the Ammer Mountains, and the Tannheim Mountains.
Luckily, I was on the right side of the bus, allowing me to enjoy this view up until we got to our destination. All of a sudden, a massive castle appeared in the midst of the mountains and seemed almost like it was out of a fairytale. Later we found out that the castle was designed by a german artists that based the design on a medieval fairytale.
When we got to the base, we were able to notice a second castle that was a vibrant yellow color. This was the one that he grew up in and the famous neuschwenstein castle was the castle that King Ludwig II later built, but was never fully completed after his death.
We spent a good amount of time walking up to and admiring the castle up close, as we were able to appreciate the sheer size of this thing.
The tour gave us great insight into the history of the castle and those involved with building an iconic piece of architecture. We learned that the king died while on a walk with his therapist, as he was considered emotionally incapable of continuing to rule. This definitely added to the feeling that this was a real-life fairytale.
As we ended the tour, we had one more stop before going back to Munich. This was the town of Fussen, a small Bavarian town in the Allgau region. Again, we didn't have much expectation. The town itself was extremely peaceful, with stellar views surrounding it. As we walked around for a place to eat, the architecture started to show off.
My group found a vegetarian restaurant owned by a Romanian that let us dine a couple of hours after they had closed(he was very nice). Each of us got pizzas, and I underestimated how good they would be.
As we rushed onto the bus, we had only wished for more time to explore and enjoy the peacefulness of this town.
Coming back to Munich, we enjoyed a team dinner and later enjoyed a night further exploring the city center.
Cyndea Labissiere: Our day started with breakfast at the hotel. I got yogurt with oats and dried fruits, aside with a piece of bread. Then we got on the bus to Allianz Arena, where we toured Bayern Munich stadium and learned about its rich history and traditions. We toured the stadium from the bleachers, their locker room, walked through the tunnel where players make their entrance, and saw the pitch where the reserves sit. The highlight of the trip was definitely seeing the Harry Kane jersey up close. After the tour, we went to the museum, which dove into the club's past, and of course, I got a shirt as a souvenir. We headed to the city center to shop and grab lunch at 60 Seconds to Napoli, where I enjoyed a pesto pizza with the fluffiest crust, it was incredible. As the sun set, the city looked stunning from my hotel window. Later, we ended the day with a European basketball game, which was a fun contrast to the NBA. The fan traditions, like synchronized paper clapping, made the atmosphere in the arena electric—a perfect way to end an unforgettable day!
