SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Lehigh men's soccer continued non-league play on Tuesday evening on the road from Owen T. Carroll Field against the Seton Hall Pirates. The Mountain Hawks and Pirates played to a 0-0 draw in Lehigh's final match before Patriot League play begins.

"I thought that we competed really well in our box defensively, did a better job with ball retention in circulation, but our final product was not great when we got into the final third," said Ingrassia Family men's head soccer coach Dean Koski. "The effort, the grit, and the work ethic I was really pleased with on the road against a great team."

Seton Hall (2-1-2) challenged Lehigh (0-2-3) offensively in the first half, logging seven shots to the Mountain Hawks' three. Junior goalkeeper Anton Kinnunen made three saves in the half alongside a solid defensive effort that kept the Pirates off the board. Lehigh's one shot on goal in the first half came courtesy of sophomore Luciano Larrea in the 11th minute, but Seton Hall goalkeeper Devin Armstrong made the save.

Kinnunen remained steady in goal in the second half, making three additional saves in the frame. The Pirates recorded nine shots in the period to Lehigh's four. The Mountain Hawks' second half shot on goal came late in the 86th minute when Armstrong made a save on junior Ryan Mundy. Despite dropping a 5-0 result to the Pirates a season ago, the Mountain Hawks managed to finish the game tying the Big East side 0-0.

"We are getting more settled defensively and figuring out the right pieces out there," said Koski. "There was an improvement from [the result against Seton Hall] from this year to last year, but we're also a new team this year and so are they."

Larrea paced Lehigh with two shots and one on goal while senior Trey Sheeler, junior Paul Smajlaj, first-year Alex Junquera, sophomore Bridger Baltes and Mundy each tallied one shot in the tie.

Kinnunen made six saves in his second consecutive and sixth career shutout.

"Anton is starting to come into form," said Koski. "He's had back-to-back performances taking command and making the saves he's capable of making. That's the Anton that I believe will continue to play that way and we'll continue to be in more matches because of that kind of performance. He and Trey were our men of the match today."

The Mountain Hawks return to action on Saturday, September 12 at 1 p.m. to open Patriot League play on the road at Loyola Maryland.

"It's all about our preparation in the next three days," said Koski. "We have to recover from this game and make sure that our Thursday and Friday training sessions are good and have the right mindset going down to Loyola. I have great respect for Loyola and their coaching staff, and we will have our work cut out for us. Let the games begin."
