Mountain Hawks Capture Pair Of Weekly Patriot League Football Awards

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh football team defeated Fordham Saturday for their first Patriot League victory. On Monday, two Mountain Hawks were recognized by the Patriot League for their efforts in the 33-19 win over the Rams. Graduate student linebacker Mike DeNucci was named Defensive Player of the Week and first-year running back Jaden Green was named Rookie of the Week.

DeNucci led another strong defensive effort for the Mountain Hawks, with 11 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks. The four tackles for loss established a new career high while the three sacks matched a career best set in 2022 at Princeton.

Defensively, the Mountain Hawks limited the Rams to just 226 yards of offense, including just 135 through the first three quarters as Lehigh built a 33-3 lead.

This is the second career Defensive Player of the Week award for DeNucci, who leads the Mountain Hawks with 55 total tackles. He also has 6.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks.

Lehigh leads the Patriot League in total defense, allowing just 296.3 yards per game.

Green captured the second Rookie of the Week award of his first-year season after rushing for a career-high 147 yards on 17 carries against Fordham. He gained 104 of those yards in the first quarter, including a 44-yard touchdown run that gave the Mountain Hawks a 7-3 lead that they would not relinquish. Green averaged 8.2 yards per carry on Saturday and added a kickoff return for nine yards.

For the season, Green has carried 78 times for 380 yards and five touchdowns.

Lehigh has rushed for more than 200 yards in its last three games and the Mountain Hawks lead the Patriot League in rushing offense, averaging 192.7 yards per game.

The Mountain Hawks (4-3, 1-1 PL) travel to Washington, D.C. Saturday to face Georgetown in a key Patriot League contest with game time set for 12:30 p.m. from Cooper Field. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with audio coverage on FOX Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM and LVFoxSports.com.
