Blekhman And Jaeger Reach Doubles Finals At ITA Masters Qualifier

WEST POINT, N.Y. – One week after competing at ITA Regionals in Philadelphia, Lehigh men's tennis took on the ITA Patriot League Masters Qualifier, hosted by Army West Point. Seniors Marc Blekhman and Sean Jaeger each competed in singles and doubles play for the Mountain Hawks against the best that the Patriot League has to offer.
Each school in the Patriot League sent one doubles pairing and two singles players to compete against one another for a chance to play at the ITA Conference Masters Championships in San Diego on November 7-10.
Play began from West Point on Friday, starting with doubles competition. Blekhman and Jaeger first matched up against Colgate's Josh Israel and Benito Vlassis, earning a 6-2 win to advance to the semifinals. On the singles side, Jaeger faced Bucknell's Amar Tahirovic in the round of 16, falling in two sets 6-1, 6-3. Blekhman picked up a two-set win in his round of 16 matchup against Nick Lawliss of Loyola to advance to Saturday's quarterfinals.
Blekhman kicked off the day for Lehigh on Saturday with his quarterfinal singles bout against Bucknell's Adamantios Stavrakas, falling 6-3, 6-1 to eliminate the Mountain Hawks from the singles bracket. In the doubles bracket, Blekhman and Jaeger earned a 6-1 win over Navy's Nathan Nguyen and Jason Kim, advancing to Sunday's final.
In the final on Sunday, Blekhman and Jaeger matched up against Brendan McDonald and Tahirovic of Bucknell. The match went all the way to a final tiebreaker, but ultimately the Mountain Hawks lost 7-6 (5).
The Mountain Hawks now set their sights on the spring tennis season.
