
Mountain Hawks Dominate Rider in Season Opener

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - Lehigh women's swimming and diving downed Rider 216-78.5 in the 2024-25 season opener at Coppola Pool. The Mountain Hawks completely dominated, winning 15 individual events.Â
"It was overall one of the most positive nights of Lehigh swimming and diving in the last five years," said head coach Rob Herb.Â
Senior Willa Werwaiss and junior Caitlin Deitch shined as they won all four events they competed in on Friday. Werwaiss captured a victory in the 100-yard freestyle (53.74), the 200-yard freestyle (1:55.28), the 200-yard medley relay (1:48.23) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:36.21).
Deitch was on the winning relay team with Werwaiss while also capturing first-place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle (24.33) and the 100-yard butterfly (57.10).Â
Joining Werwaiss and Deitch on the 200-yard medley relay team was Zoe Davies and Clara Moschella who captured first with a time of 1:48.23. Mairin Ludwig and Giulia Beverini also were on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team. They captured first with a time of 3:26.21.Â
Davies and Ludwig tallied wins of their own as Davies won the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.64) and Ludwig won the 1000-yard freestyle (10:33.20) and the 200-yard IM (2:08.15).Â
First-year Claire Coughlin had an incredible performance in her debut, winning the 100-yard backstroke (59.77) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.06). Senior Natalie Martin also had a pair of first-place finishes, winning the 200-yard butterfly (2:07.64) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.63).
Senior Sarah Gill picked up right where she left off on the diving board as she won the one-meter dive (260.93) while capturing second in the three-meter dive (260.93). Sophomore Kate Whitaker came in fourth in the one-meter dive (215.10) with first-year Ashlyn Bardack taking fifth place (187.13).Â
Lehigh doesn't have to wait long before its next meet as the Mountain Hawks take on West Chester and Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Graham Natatorium.Â
