Mountain Hawks Capture Success at Lehigh Hidden Dual

BETHLEHEM, Pa - The Lehigh women's tennis team was in action at the Ulrich Varsity Tennis Courts for the first time since April as the Mountain Hawks hosted Army, Colgate and Saint Joseph's in the Lehigh Hidden Dual.Â
Lehigh had a successful two days of competition. It all started with some incredible singles play on Saturday that saw Lehigh win six out of seven singles matches against Saint Joseph's.Â
Maggie Forkner won her match 6-2, 6-4, Megha Dania won both of her sets by a score of 6-3, Hannah Letzer won 6-1 and 6-4. While Giselle Vlassis was defeated 6-4 in the first set, Vlassis battled back and won two sets with a score of 6-4 and 16-14. Audrey Harrington won both sets 6-1 and Anushka Dania also won both sets 6-3. While Alyce Gaborik was defeated, Gaborik forced three sets, but fell 10-7 in the final set.
Following a successful round of singles, the Mountain Hawks carried that momentum into doubles, where they swept Colgate in all four matches. Gaborik and Forkner beat Sophia Montero and Jordan Ben-Shumel 8-1, the Danias beat Carina Cristobal and Amelia Galin 8-2, Harrington and Hamsa Javagal defeated Sasha Herman and Gigi Bohan 8-5 and Bella Peters and Avery Hopkey beat Avery Issac and Eliza Podlas 8-7.Â
Lehigh faced Army in singles for the final event on day one of the Hidden Dual. Megha Dania was the only Mountain Hawk to win her singles match against the Black Knights, taking down Emma Sy 6-1, 6-1.Â
The Mountain Hawks carried their success from Saturday into Sunday, starting with a doubles sweep against Saint Joseph's. The Danias beat Charlotte Kordonowy and Victoria Tracey 8-7, Maggie Forkner and Audrey Harrigton defeated Kirsten Wijnesma and Ana Ocasio 8-6, Vlassis and Hopkey defeated Sophia and Ireland Amato 8-3 and Peters and Letzer beat Brooke Tackett and Olivia Slate 8-1.Â
Lehigh went up against Colgate in singles, where the Mountain Hawks won six of their seven matches. Forkner won 6-4, 6-2, Megha Dania lost the first set 1-6, but came back in the next two sets, winning 6-1 and 10-6. Gaborik won 6-2,-6-3, Letzer won both matches 6-1, Harrington won 6-3, 7-5, and Anushka Dania won with a score of 6-1 and 6-3.Â
In the last event of the Hidden Dual, Lehigh was swept by Army in doubles. The Danias lost 8-3, Forkner and Harrington were defeated 8-4, Vlassis and Hopkey lost 8-3 and Peters and Letzerr lost 8-6.
Lehigh will take on Monmouth in West Long Branch, N.J., on Sept. 23 in the lone dual meet of the fall season.Â
