Four Mountain Hawks Recognized As All-American Scholars By GCAA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Four members of the Patriot League champion Lehigh men's golf team have been named All-American Scholars by the Golf Coaches Association of America. Recent graduates Sam Barton, David Hurly and Daniel Song and rising junior Aidan Oehrle were all recognized by the GCAA for their successes on the course and in the classroom. Hurly and Song both earned All-American Scholar recognition for the second consecutive season.

To be eligible for the GCAA All-America Scholar team at the Division I level, an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically, participate in 40 percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke average under 76.0 and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2.

Song was the Patriot League's individual champion, Player of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2023. He graduated in May with a 3.72 in computer science and business. A two-time first team All-Patriot League selection, Song led Lehigh with a 72.35 scoring average over 23 rounds last season.

Barton graduated with a degree in finance and posted a 3.71 GPA. He was two-time second team All-Patriot League and added Academic All-Patriot League honors in 2022. Barton carried a 74.38 scoring average in 2022-23 while playing 21 competitive rounds.

Hurly also earned a degree in finance with a 3.33 cumulative GPA. He will be taking a fifth-year at Lehigh while pursuing a master's degree in technical entrepreneurship. The lone Mountain Hawk to play in all 29 competitive rounds during the 2022-23 season, Hurly held a 72.4 scoring average.

Oehrle carries a 3.42 GPA as a finance major. A first team All-Patriot League honoree, Oehrle finished third at the Patriot League Championship. Oehrle posted a 72.72 scoring average over 25 rounds and his 64 at the Doc Gimmler in September was the low round of the year for the Mountain Hawks.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that at least one Lehigh men's golfer was recognized. A total of 548 NCAA Division I athletes from 194 schools earned 2022-23 GCAA All-America Scholar honors.
As a team, the Mountain Hawks were also recognized with the GCAA Academic Team Award for having a team GPA over 3.5. Lehigh was one of 54 Division I programs to achieve this honor.

Lehigh captured its fourth Patriot League championship in men's golf and competed at the NCAA Regionals for the first time since 2013. The Mountain Hawks won four team tournament titles during the 2022-23 campaign.
