Three Student-Athletes, Women's Tennis Team Honored For Academics by ITA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's tennis team earned both team and individual academic honors from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. Senior Junmoke James and sophomores Allyce Gaborik and Hamsa Javagal were named ITA Scholar-Athletes while the Mountain Hawks received the ITA Academic Team Award for the 2022-23 school year.
 
The trio of James, Gaborik and Javagal are all repeat ITA Scholar-Athlete honorees, with James recognized for the fourth consecutive year.
 
Overall, 234 women's teams earned ITA team awards and 1,513 student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes. 

The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must have a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year and must be listed on the institutional eligibility form. 
 
As a team, the Mountain Hawks had a 3.34 GPA during the 2022-23 school year. James had a 3.66 GPA and graduated with a degree in English. Gaborik posted a 3.65 in finance and Javagal earned a 3.56 in biology. All three Mountain Hawks made the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in early May.
