ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Saturday afternoon, Lehigh fell to Navy 7-0 in its first match of Patriot League play. With the loss, the Mountain Hawks fall to 0-1 in league play and 4-11 overall on the season.
With the win, Navy improves to 14-4 on the season, 12-1 in home matches, and 1-0 in league play.
"The overall score doesn't really reflect how competitive this match was. We had a lot of tight moments and chances across the board, but Navy did a better job capitalizing on the big points. I'm proud of how we fought, we need to keep pushing to turn those close situations our way," said head coach Sophia Geier.
The match began with Navy claiming the doubles point thanks to wins on all three courts.
In singles play, Maggie Forkner won the first set on court No. 1 against Emma Gu, but Gu came back to win the second set and then claimed the third-set tiebreaker to take the match.
Navy swept the remaining singles matches on courts 2-6 in straight sets to win the match, 7-0.
