BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh rallied to a 5-2 victory over Bucknell Saturday at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. With the win,the Mountain Hawks improved to 1-1 in Patriot League play and 5-11 overall. With the loss,Bucknell slides to 0-5 in league play and 7-10 overall.
"Today was a great example of our resilience," said head coach Sophia Geier. "We didn't come out the way we wanted, and dropping the doubles point put us on the back foot early. But I'm proud of how the team responded in singles. We competed with a lot of toughness across the board, and to come away winning five of six singles matches says a lot."
The match began with Bucknell earning the doubles point, thanks to wins on courts one and three.
For singles play, Lehigh won five of six singles matches to secure the win. Lena Dogadalski led the charge on court No. 2, cruising past Riley Jennings 6-3, 6-1. Giselle Vlassis battled to a 7-5, 7-6 victory on court No. 3 over Tori Allen, while Alina Shyani took court No. 4 with a 6-4, 6-3 win against Mirra Manolov. Skye Yonehara delivered a tight 6-4, 7-6 victory on court No. 5 versus Jaycie Mari, and Alice Ann Pantsari closed out the Mountain Hawks' scoring on court No. 6 with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win over Natalie Devraj to clinch the 5-2 victory.
