BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Sunday afternoon, Mount St. Mary's defeated Lehigh, 4-3, at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. With the loss, Lehigh falls to 3-9 on the season. The Mountaineers improve to 3-7 with the victory.
"It's always frustrating to come up just short in a 4-3 match," said head coach Sophia Geier. "The positive is that when we won points today, we won them decisively. Now the focus is on turning a couple of those close courts in our favor next time."
The match began with Mount St. Mary's claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and three.
Lehigh earned three singles victories on the afternoon. On court one, Maggie Forkner defeated Emma Perkins 6-0, 6-2. Alina Shyani picked up a win on court five with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Isabella Pescatore, while Alice Ann Pantsari secured a 6-3, 6-1 win against Anna Barlini on court six. Mount St. Mary's won the remaining singles matches to secure the 4-3 team victory.
