Mountain Hawks Suffer Loss in Series Finale Versus Navy

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team (20-25, 7-14 Patriot League) dropped the series' final game, 14-1 in seven innings, to Navy (23-23, 14-11 Patriot League) on Monday afternoon from J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park.
After a scoreless first inning, the Mountain Hawks scored their lone run of the game when junior Tyler Young grounded out to the shortstop to score sophomore Rafe Perich, giving Lehigh a 1-0 advantage.
The Brown and White held that lead until the fourth inning when the Midshipmen tied the game on an Ivan Aguirre walk and took the lead when Nick Burch doubled home two runs to take a 3-0 lead.
Navy then added four runs in the fifth and seven more in the sixth to put extend its advantage to 14-1, which was the final score.
Five different Mountain Hawks made up the five hits in the game, with Perich scoring the lone run and Young getting the RBI. Fifth-year Gerard Sweeney, junior Andrew Nole and first-year Dom Patrizi put together the other Lehigh hits.
Four Midshipmen produced multi-hit performances, with Alex Smith going 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Burch, Kyle Rausch and Colin Smith all had two hits while three other hitters had a base hit for Navy's 12 hits.
Junior Teddy Tolliver (L, 1-2) started his 10th game of the year and went 3.2 innings and gave three two runs, two earned, on three hits with one strikeout and four walks. First-year Cole Leaman was the first out of the bullpen and retired one out and allowed three runs, two earned, on three hits.
Senior Ryan Deom delivered an inning of work with three runs on two hits with a strikeout and a walk before sophomore Najir Glenn replaced him a tossed 0.2 of an inning with five runs, only one earned, on two hits, two walks and struck out two. Senior Will Grisack faced two batters, giving up a hit and one walk before sophomore Marcus Danchision finished the game, going 1.1 scoreless innings on one hit and one strikeout.
Matthew Shirah (W, 4-4) started on the rubber for Navy and went five innings with an earned run on four hits with four strikeouts and a walk before Thomas Russell entered in relief. Russell threw the final two innings and did not allow a run with one hit and a strikeout.
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will return to J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park on Thursday, May 4 when they host Cairn University in their final non-league game of the year. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
