Lehigh Preps for Final Road Game at Towson on Tuesday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team (19-22, 6-12 Patriot League) is set to travel to Towson (12-28, 3-15 CAA) for its last road game of the season on Tuesday afternoon at John B. Schuerholz Park. The game is slated for 3 p.m. and will be streamed on FloSports.

The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 2-2 week, earning a 9-5 road victory over rival Lafayette on Wednesday before going 1-2 against Bucknell at home. Fifth-years Joe Gorla and Casey Rother both produced six hits apiece, with Gorla driving in one run and scoring one while Rother collected 11 RBIs with two home runs, two doubles and five runs scored. Sophomore Rafe Perich recorded four hits with six RBIs with three home runs, all coming on Saturday against the Bison, and three runs scored while fifth-year Gerard Sweeney and first-year Dom Patrizi each had five hits.

Lehigh used nine pitchers last week with senior Ben Christian earning a win in his start against Lafayette and a save in the 10-4 win over Bucknell. He threw 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts and just four hits. Sophomore Alex Bouchard also claimed a victory on the week in his start against the Bison while also seeing action in relief versus the Leopards with 8.2 innings pitched with four Ks and seven hits with three earned runs. First-year Cole Leaman also toed the rubber twice in relief, delivering 3.2 innings with a couple of strikeouts.
Six Mountain Hawks are hitting over .300, led by junior Andrew Nole who has a .354 batting average with 35 hits, eight doubles and two homers for 18 RBIs and runs scored. Rother is hitting .348 and tops the Mountain Hawks stat sheet with 56 hits, 16 doubles, 15 home runs and 61 RBIs. Perich is second on the squad with 42 hits and 27 RBIs and nine doubles while hitting. Perich is second on the squad with 53 hits and 41 RBIs and is tied with Rother with 16 doubles while hitting 310. Junior Tyler Young is hitting .308 while sophomore Andrew Kohl has a .304 batting average and is second on the team with eight home runs. Patrizi, who was last week's Patriot League Rookie of the Week, is hitting .385 and has 13 RBIs on 30 hits with 23 runs scored.

Rettig is one of two Mountain Hawk pitchers to have thrown at least 41 innings. Rettig has tossed 44.1 innings this season and has a 5-3 record in 10 starts with an ERA of 3.86 and 51 strikeouts this season. He sits second all-time with 258 career strikeouts, now just five away from moving into first in program history while sophomore Alex Bouchard has thrown 41 innings, with 33 strikeouts in 10 starts and 12 appearances with a 3-1 record. Junior Teddy Tolliver has thrown 34.1 innings with 29 strikeouts in nine starts and 10 appearances while Christian has made 11 appearances with four starts with a 2-2 record in 27 innings of work. Senior Will Grisack has made the most appearances on the mound this season with 18 and has tossed 26 innings with 25 strikeouts.

Towson (12-28, 3-15 CAA) enters the game on a two-game losing streak, defeating Monmouth 18-5 in the conference series opener before dropping the last two games of the three-game series, 21-10 and 7-6 in 10 innings. The Tigers and Mountain Hawks have had two similar opponents, Villanova and Coppin State. Lehigh has defeated Coppin State twice (12-2 and 8-2) but suffered a 9-7 loss to Villanova, but Towson took down Villanova 3-2 but lost to Coppin State 4-3.
Three Tigers are hitting above .300, led by Casey Bishop who is hitting at a clip of .317 with 45 hits, eight doubles and three home runs while James Moses and Elijah Dickerson have batting averages of .306 and .303 respectively. Bryce Frederick is hitting .276 but leads Towson in home runs (7), RBIs (34) and doubles (11) to go along with 45 hits.

Four arms for Towson have tossed at least 35 innings, led by Justin Rebok, who has a 2-1 record in 10 starts and 13 appearances in 44.2 innings of action with 31 strikeouts. Nate Nabholtz had made 14 appearances on the bump with one start for 39.1 innings and leads the Tigers with 40 strikeouts with a 3.43 ERA and an 0-1 record. Max Simpson and Brett Sells have each made 13 appearances with Simpson delivering 38.1 innings of work with 33 Ks while Brett Sells has thrown 35.1 innings with 16 strikeouts.

Lehigh and Towson are going head-to-head for the first time since 1998, with the Tigers holding a 13-9 record over the Brown and White. The Mountain Hawks are looking to claim their second-to-last non-league game and earn a win in the final road trip of the 2023 season.
The Mountain Hawks return to J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park on Saturday, April 29 for a doubleheader with Navy in Patriot League action followed by the final game of the three-game series wrapping up Sunday, April 30. All three-games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
