BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team (12-17, 1-7 Patriot League) finished off the suspended game with a 10-7 victory before being shutout by Lafayette (8-21, 4-4 Patriot League) 4-0 in the final game of the weekend in The Rivalry, presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute from J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park Sunday afternoon.

Conclusion of Game 3 – W, 10-7
The Mountain Hawks put up three runs in the bottom of the first, started by fifth-year Casey Rother with an RBI single for a 1-0 advantage. Sophomore Justin Butler singled to right field to score Rother and sophomore Andrew Kohl was walked with the bases loaded for a 3-0 lead.

The teams played two scoreless frames before Lafayette got on the board when Patrick Vandenbergh singled home a run and Easton Brenner recorded an RBI single to cut the deficit to just one run, 3-2.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Rother led off with a walk and scored from first base after sophomore Rafe Perich singled through the left side to double the score, 4-2.

The Leopards tied the game when Brenner blasted a two-run home run to right-center field in the top half of the sixth, but the Mountain Hawks answered with a big inning, scoring six runs in the home half of the sixth. Junior Tyler Young gave Lehigh a 5-4 lead with an RBI single and Rother hit a two-RBI single for a 7-4 advantage. First-year Ryan Cochran doubled to right center and cleared the bases for three RBIs and put the Brown and White ahead 10-4.

The Leopards scored a run on a wild pitch to cut the lead in half, 10-5 in the top of the seventh before the game was halted due to inclement weather with no outs and runners on first and third base.

The game was resumed at 12 p.m. today and Lehigh made a few changes before it began. Senior Ryan Deom entered the game on the mound with first-year Owen Walewander was behind the plate as Perich and first-year Dom Patrizi went back to third and second respectively. Lafayette plated the two runners that were on base, but the Mountain Hawks ended the game with a 10-7 victory.

Rother and Perich both went 2-for-3 on the game, with Rother driving in three runs and scored three runs while Perich scored once and plated a run with a double. First-year Ryan Cochran pinch hit and drove in three runs in his lone at-bat with a double. Young and Butler also recorded a hit and an RBI with sophomore Jake Whitlinger recording a hit as well.

Lafayette used just two pitchers in the game, Alex Walsh tossed five innings with four runs, three earned, on four hits with four walks and three strikeouts. Jacob Maurer (L, 0-3) entered in relief and gave up six runs on four hits with two walks.

Sophomore Alex Bouchard started the game and threw four innings with two runs allowed on four hits, two Ks and two walks. Sophomores Val Taddei and Perich and senior Will Grisack (W, 2-1) combined for two innings before Deom closed out the game.

Final Game – L, 4-0
The fourth and final game of the weekend series was scoreless after the first three innings before Lafayette took the lead on a Ethan Swidler single into left field, giving the Leopards a 1-0 lead.

The squads would play two more innings before the next runs crossed the plate in the seventh frame. Brenner plated a couple of runs on a single up the middle and Seif Ingram followed that up with a bunt single that score Brenner from third base to put Lafayette on top 4-0.

In the top of the ninth, Butler threw out a pair of Leopards trying to steal second base, but the Mountain Hawks were unable to get a run across the plate in the bottom half of the inning and suffered a 4-0 loss to rival Lafayette.

Perich was the lone Mountain Hawk with a couple of hits in the game, going 2-for-3 with a walk while Whitlinger, fifth-year Joe Gorla and Patrizi recorded hits in the game.

Lafayette had Joe Skapinetz (W, 1-1) make the start and threw six scoreless innings with four hits and 10 strikeouts while walking just three batters. Dylan Siesky tossed two innings and had one walk and one hit with a couple of Ks before James Reese entered the game in the ninth and recorded two strikeouts.

Lehigh's Rother made his first start of the season and pitched two innings with three strikeouts and just one hit with a couple of walks. Senior Ben Christian (L, 0-2) entered in relief and hurled 3.2 innings of work with one run on two hits and four strikeouts.

First-year Shane O'Neill recorded an out in the three batters he faced and allowed two runs on one hit before sophomore Marcus Danchision entered from the bullpen. Danchision tossed two innings and allowed one run on three hits with a strikeout. Sophomore Najir Glenn was the last reliever that the Mountain Hawks used and threw an inning with just one hit.
