Mountain Hawks Edged 4-3 in Road Match at Colgate

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Lehigh swept the doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead but the Mountain Hawks were unable to get the three singles wins necessary to get past Colgate Sunday afternoon at Drumlins Country Club. The host Raiders claimed four singles matches to take a 4-3 victory of the Mountain Hawks.

Junior Megha Dania and sophomore Allyce Gaborik earned Lehigh's singles wins and were winners in doubles as well. Lehigh falls to 4-7 overall and 1-2 in league matches.

Lehigh dropped just seven combined games in sweeping the doubles point. Megha Dania teamed with sister Anushka to defeat Amelia Galin and Emme Levenson 6-1 at the top flight. Gaborik and senior Junmoke James secured the opening point with a 6-2 victory over Katerina Atallah and Emily Untermeyer at No. 2. Sophomore Hamsa Javagal and first-year Bella Peters secured the sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles.

Colgate (10-4, 3-0 PL) picked up its first point at No. 6 when Peters had to retire due to injury against Atallah. Peter's dropped the first set but was up 2-1 in the second when her match ended.

Gaborik put Lehigh up 2-1 with a straight set win over Addie Eklund at No. 3 but the Raiders came back with wins at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 4 to clinch the match. James took Jordan Ben-Shmuel to a third set at No. 4 but fell 6-4 in the deciding set.

Megha Dania completed a 7-6, 6-2 win over Levenson at No. 2 to account for Lehigh's third point.

Lehigh will visit Lafayette for the annual rivalry match, Sunday April 2 at 9 a.m.
