Lehigh Tops Lafayette 5-2 For 20th Straight Win In Women's Tennis Rivalry

EASTON, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team defeated rival Lafayette 5-2 Sunday afternoon in Easton as the Mountain Hawks picked up their 20th consecutive win in The Rivalry. Lehigh won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches to improve to 5-7 overall and 2-2 in the Patriot League.

Lafayette opened the match with a win at No. 2 doubles but Lehigh battled back to take the next two matches to claim the doubles point. Juniors Anushka and Megha Dania won 6-2 at the No. 1 flight over Emma Menkowitz and Halle Denardo. Sophomore Hamsa Javagal and first-year Bella Peters won 6-3 over Olivia Boeckman and Melanie Sparhawk to give Lehigh the early 1-0 lead.

The Leopards evened the match with a walkover win at No. 6 singles before the Mountain Hawks won the next three singles matches to clinch the victory.

Megha Dania dropped just three games in a win over Carmen Merkel at No. 2 singles and Javagal posted a 6-4, 6-1 win over Boeckman at the top flight. Anushka Dania defeated Denardo 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 to give Lehigh a 4-1 advantage.

Lafayette picked up a win at No. 4 singles but sophomore Allyce Gaborik won a second-set tiebreak to close out the victory with a straight-set win over Sparhawk at No. 3 singles.

Lehigh returns home to face Bucknell on Saturday April 8 at noon.
