After a couple of scoreless innings, Penn tied the game with a Cole Palis RBI double and went back in front with a Jarrett Pokrovsky single to score Palis to give the Quakers a 4-3 advantage in the top half of the seventh. Lehigh found the equalizer on a bases-loaded wild pitch that scored sophomore Jake Whitlinger to tie the game at 4-4 through seven innings of play.
Both squads were tied after nine innings, which took the game into the 10th frame where Ryan Taylor tripled to right-center field to score the go-ahead run. Penn added two insurance runs for a 7-4 lead and retired Lehigh in order to hand the Mountain Hawks a 7-4 non-league loss.
Rother and sophomore Rafe Perich both recorded three-hit performances, with Rother going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a walk while Perich scored a run. Gorla went 2-for-5 with an RBI while Cochran also had two hits with a run scored. Kohl had a double and scored a run.
Lehigh used seven pitchers on Wednesday with sophomore left-hander Najir Glenn getting the start and recording a strikeout with one run in one inning of work. Right-handed junior Tyler Thompson faced two batters with two walks before sophomore Cole Leaman entered the game and threw two innings with two Ks and one unearned run on one hit and two walks.
Sophomore Val Taddei tossed three scoreless innings with three strikeouts while first-year Shane O'Neill followed out of the bullpen with an inning pitched, giving up two runs on three hits. Senior Will Grisack was called upon and threw two innings with two strikeouts and Rother (L, 0-1) entered the game in the 10th inning and gave up three runs on four hits with one strikeout.
The Mountain Hawks are set to open Patriot League play when they travel to Navy for a Saturday doubleheader before taking on Bucknell in Lewisburg on Sunday for a pair of games. All four games will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and first pitch of Saturday's twin bill is scheduled for 1 p.m.
