Lehigh Drops Patriot League Doubleheader at Navy

Game 1 – L, 15-1
The Midshipmen got on the board early, scoring three runs in the first frame, followed by a four-run second inning and two more in the third to take a 9-0 lead. The Mountain Hawks got their lone run across the plate in the top of the fourth when junior catcher Andrew Nole singled down the left-field line to score fifth-year Gerard Sweeney, putting the score at 9-1.

Navy got two more runs across in the bottom half of the fourth inning to extend the lead to 11-1. Both squads were scoreless in the fifth frame, but the Midshipmen tacked on four more runs in the sixth inning to close out the opening game of the twin bill with a 15-1 victory over Lehigh.
Fifth-year Casey Rother went 3-for-4 with three doubles while Nole went 2-for-2 and an RBI for the only two Lehigh hitters to record multiple hits. Seven other Mountain Hawks recorded a hit to combine for 13 total hits.
The fifth-year left-handed Luke Rettig (L, 4-1) got the start in game one and tossed two innings and gave up seven runs, two of them earned, on three hits, two walks and two strikeouts. Sophomore right-hander Marcus Danchision threw two innings of work with four earned runs on seven hits with four Ks while the junior right-hander Lucas Rich and first-year Jack Frankovic tossed an inning apiece. Rich gave up three runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts and two walks. Frankovic allowed one run on one hit with a strikeout as Rettig was dealt his first loss of the season.
Game 2 – L, 3-2
After a scoreless first inning, Lehigh took a 1-0 lead off a Nole RBI single to score Sweeney. Nole produced the second run of the game with another RBI single that scored sophomore Andrew Kohl to take a 2-0 lead after the top half of the fourth inning.

The Midshipmen and Lehigh played three scoreless frames before Navy tied the game at 2-2 with a triple down the right-field line. Navy then followed that triple with a sacrifice fly to right field that scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the eighth to earn a 3-2 victory over Lehigh.
Sweeney led the squad at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double and scoring a run while Nole went 2-for-2 and produced both RBIs in the game and drew two walks. Sophomore Rafe Perich and junior Tyler Young each had a base, totaling seven hits.
Three pitchers appeared on the mound in game two with junior right-hander Teddy Tolliver getting the start. Tolliver tossed four innings of work and allowed one run on four hits with a couple of strikeouts and two walks. First-year Shane O'Neill (L, 1-1) was the first to enter in relief and threw three innings with two runs, one earned with just one hit with one strikeout while senior right-hander Will Grisack pitched one scoreless inning and did not allow a hit.
The Mountain Hawks will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, March 26 when they take on Bucknell in a Patriot League doubleheader at Depew Field in Lewisburg.
