Lehigh Sits Second After Opening Round of Carpetbagger Classic

URBANA, Md. – The Lehigh men's golf had a strong opening day of play for the spring season as the Mountain Hawks shot seven over par 295 on day one of the Carpetbagger Classic Saturday at Worthington Manor Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks sit in second place in a 15-team field, seven strokes behind the leaders, Rhode Island, as the Rams shot even par 288 as a team.

Junior Edmund Broderick led the way for Lehigh shooting one under par 71 on Saturday. Broderick made five birdies in his round and is tied for fourth place, two strokes behind co-leaders Bryson Richards of Rhode Island and Leon Heitz of FDU.

Senior David Hurly opened with a round of one over par 73 that also included five birdies. Hurly is tied for 12th place, just four strokes off the lead. Classmate Daniel Song is tied for 20th after shooting three over par 75. Song carded three birdies in his opening round.

First-year Will Caronchi turned in a 76 that included three birdies and is tied for 29th place. Lehigh's fifth scoring player is first-year Jake Roth, who shot 84 and is tied for 77th place.

Lehigh also has one player competing as an individual, first-year Aiden LeBlanc, who matched Caronchi with a 76 and is tied for 29th place. LeBlanc carded two birdies in his opening round.

Behind URI and Lehigh, Robert Morris (297), Navy (299) and Bryant (300) comprise the top five.

The Carpetbagger Classic concludes Sunday from Worthington Manor Golf Club. A shotgun start is set for 9:30 am.
