TEANECK, N.J. – The Lehigh baseball team (9-7) took their first lead of the game in the top of the 7th inning before falling to Fairleigh Dickinson (8-6-1, 2-1 NEC) from Naimoli Family Baseball Complex in non-league action on Wednesday afternoon.

After a scoreless first frame, FDU got two runs across in the bottom of the second off a triple from Nicholas Mazzotta that plated one Knight. TJ Werner then doubled to score Mazzotta to give FDU a 2-0 advantage after two innings.

The Mountain Hawks scored three runs in the seventh inning. Sophomore Rafe Perich stepped up to the plate with the bases loaded and two outs and popped the ball up on the infield when the ball was dropped by the third baseman, allowing fifth-year Joe Gorla and junior Andrew Nole to score and tie the game at 2-2. Fifth-year Casey Rother then singled to third which score sophomore Jake Whitlinger from third to put Lehigh in front 3-2.

In the bottom half of the seventh, the Knights countered with two runs of their own with a two-RBI by Tom Ruscitti to score the tying and go-ahead runs as FDU regained a 4-3 lead. The Mountain Hawks had two runners on base with two outs, but the Knights recorded the final out as Lehigh fell to FDU.

Four Mountain Hawks made up their five hits in the game with Perich going 2-for-5 with a double while Rother recorded his lone hit with an RBI and a walk. Junior Riley Davis and sophomore Andrew Kohl each had one base hit in the game while Whitlinger, Gorla and Nole scored runs for the Brown and White.

Sophomore left-hander pitcher Najir Glenn got the start Wednesday afternoon and recorded four strikeouts in 3.1 innings giving up two runs on four hits and two walks. Right-handed sophomore Cole Leaman was the first out of the bullpen and threw 2.2 innings with two Ks and one earned run on three hits before senior right-hander Ryan Deom (L, 1-1) gave up one run on one hit with a strikeout and a walk, which dealt him the loss in the decision. Senior right-hander Will Grisack was called upon to record two outs, throwing 0.2 of an inning with a walk and one strikeout.

Lehigh returns home to Bethlehem for a three-game series with Saint Peter's Friday through Sunday. The first game of the series is scheduled for Friday, March 17 with first pitch at 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
