Lehigh Heads to FDU Before Hosting Saint Peter’s in Weekend Series

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh baseball team will take on Fairleigh Dickinson on the road on Wednesday before the Mountain Hawks host Saint Peter's for a three-game series at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park from Friday through Sunday.
Lehigh and FDU were originally scheduled to play at J. David Walker Field at Legacy Park Tuesday, March 14, but the game was postponed to a later date.
The Mountain Hawks (9-6) are coming off a 3-2 week where they defeated Coppin State 12-2 and split a four-game series at Utah Valley, earning wins in the first two games (9-7 and 12-3) before dropping the final two games of the series (9-4 and 13-9). Junior Tyler Young earned Patriot League Honorable Mention after going 11-for-22 last week with six runs scored and three RBIs. Fifth-year Joe Gorla hit a home run and two doubles while collecting a couple of RBIs while hitting .471 for the week. Both Sweeney and Gorla eclipsed 100 career hits against Utah Valley this past weekend.
Sophomore Andrew Kohl leads the squad with a batting average of .400, seven home runs and 21 RBIs. Young, Gorla and fifth-year Gerard Sweeney are all hitting over .300 with Young hitting .389, Sweeney producing at a clip of .324 and Gorla hitting .313.
Nineteen different Mountain Hawks made appearances on the mound this past week, with the left-handed fifth-year Luke Rettig, junior right-hander Tyler Thompson and sophomore right-hander Alex Bouchard all earning wins. Rettig improved to 3-0 overall with three strikeouts in his victory while Bouchard (1-1) and Thompson (1-0) earned their wins in relief.
Fairleigh Dickinson (7-6-1, 2-1 NEC) split their opening series against Butler and Queens (N.C.) before earning series wins against Albany and LIU. Most recently, the Knights opened conference play going 2-1 against LIU, winning Friday (11-2) and Saturday (5-4) before dropping the finale (8-5). Tom Ruscitti leads FDU, hitting .364 with 20 hits, 17 RBIs, 16 runs scored and five home runs. TJ Werner, Luke Cantwell and Hunter D'Amato are also hitting over .300. Five Knights have thrown over 10 innings of action this season, led by Rich Racobaldo who has thrown 20 innings with 24 strikeouts and a 1-1 record in four starts. Brendan Medoro has tossed 14 innings with 12 Ks and a 2-0 record in one start and four appearances.

Saint Peter's (0-14) is entering the weekend series searching for its first win this season. The Peacocks and Mountain Hawks have one common opponent this season, Coppin State, which Lehigh defeated 12-2 and Saint Peter's lost all three games. Sam Haney and Jack Eichler are both hitting .319 this season which is a team-best. Haney has 10 runs scored, two doubles and two home runs with seven RBIs while Eichler has a double, triple and home run with five RBIs and scored five runs. Nick Markantonatos leads the squad in RBIs with 11. Three Peacock pitchers have thrown over 10 innings so far, led by Jack Gannon who has made four appearances and two starts, throwing 14.1 innings and 14 strikeouts. Kyle Mahady and Zach Frasher have recorded nine strikeouts each and threw 18 innings. Mahady has made five appearances and four starts while Frasher made five starts for Saint Peter's.
