League Play Begins For Mountain Hawks With Visit To Rival Lafayette

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's lacrosse team is set to begin Patriot League play Saturday with the Rivalry, as the Mountain Hawks will battle Lafayette at 12:30 at Fisher Stadium in Easton, Pa. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Mountain Hawks have won five straight games to move to 5-1 on the season, most recently a 14-11 victory at Wager last Saturday. Seniors Katia Carnevale and Cassie Marte led the way with four goals. Marte stuffed the stat sheet with career highs in goals (four) and points (five), while also adding five draw controls.

Junior Olivia Memeger scored three goals and tied for the team lead with five points, while senior Gabby Schneider dished out three assists, including the 100th of her career.

Carnevale leads Lehigh with 19 goals, while Memeger tops the Mountain Hawks with 12 assists and 28 points. Schneider has 24 points and needs just five assists to break Lehigh's career record currently held by Allison LaBeau '17. Senior Emma Eberhardt is also over 20 points on the season with 14 goals and seven assists for 21. Eberhardt also has 25 draw controls, second only to Marte's 26.

Marte also leads the Mountain Hawks with 12 caused turnovers and 15 groundballs. Graduate student Jenna Garden and sophomores Julia DiConza and Lauren Warfield anchor a defense that has allowed single digit goals in four of its five victories. Junior goalie Hayley Hunt owns a 8.77 goals against average and has made 42 saves.

Lafayette enters league play at 1-6 overall. The Leopards have played back-to-back overtime games, beating Canisius on Saturday before falling 11-10 at Iona on Wednesday. Katie Chiasson has 13 goals to lead Lafayette while Sarah Bennett leads with eight assists and 19 total points.

Lindsay Geiger has a team-best 31 draw controls and seven caused turnovers. Lexie Coldiron has played every minute in goal and owns a 13.51 goals-against average and .407 save percentage.

Lehigh has won the last eight meetings with Lafayette to take a 31-22 lead in the all-time series. Last year, the Mountain Hawks won 16-6 at the Ulrich Sports Complex, powered by an eight-goal effort by Carnevale.

Following Saturday's game, Lehigh will close out a four-game road swing with a noon start at Loyola on Saturday, March 18.
