Lehigh Suffers Loss to Boston University in Final Home Game of the Season

2/25/2023 8:24:00 PM | Women's Basketball

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's basketball team's four-game winning streak was snapped in a 78-65 defeat to Boston University on Saturday. It was also Senior Day for Lehigh's two seniors, Anna Harvey and Frannie Hottinger

"They're awesome," Micir said. "They play relentlessly, hard and never give up. They are both two people that care a lot, so I'm glad we're getting to celebrate them today. We want to follow their lead too heading into this last game."

The Mountain Hawks are 15-13 (11-6 PL). The Terriers remain undefeated in Patriot League play with 17 straight league wins. Boston University has an overall record of 22-6.

Boston University came out strong right from the start. At the first media timeout, The Terriers led 14-6. Boston U. had a 20-13 lead after the first 10 minutes.

The second quarter is when Lehigh started to find its rhythm. After Caitlin Weimar scored a layup with 3:47 left in the first half to put the Terriers up by 14, Lehigh went on a 9-0 run. Mackenzie Kramer knocked down a jumper plus a free throw to make it 36-32, but a turnover and a quick layup from Boston University would put the Terriers up 38-32 going into halftime.

Lehigh came out of the second half ready to go. The Mountain Hawks went on an 8-0 run to start the third quarter. A Lily Fandre three-pointer put Lehigh up 40-38, but the Terriers would call a timeout and go on a 22-4 run to end the third quarter.

The Mountain Hawks won the fourth quarter 21-18, but it just ultimately wouldn't be enough to come back on Saturday. The Terriers biggest lead of the game was 23 points, and Lehigh chipped at it to cut the deficit to 13 at the end.

Frannie Hottinger recorded her 15th double-double of the season after finishing with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Kramer and Anna Harvey also recorded double figures. Harvey had 11 points, five rebounds and five assists, and Kramer had 15 points and four assists.

Caitlin Weimar led the Terriers with 24 points and 15 rebounds.

Boston U. shot 53.4% from the field, while the Mountain Hawks shot 37.9%. The Terriers, who are one of the best teams in the nation in three-point percentage, shot it at a very efficient rate, going 7-of-13 from downtown. The Mountain Hawks were 10-of-31.

'We've got to make shots," Micir said. "I thought they did a good job at contesting early and taking us a little out of rhythm, and they got good looks at the rim. We've got to figure out a way to be a little bit tougher, and continue to hunt the shots that we want, and shoot with confidence."

Boston U. controlled the paint, scoring 42 points in the paint to Lehigh's 24.
The Mountain Hawks have one last regular season game left before they host a Patriot League quarterfinal on March 6. Lehigh will take on Army on Wednesday in West Point, N.Y., at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and on Fox Sports Radio 94.7 FM and 1230 AM.

"It's going to be a fast-paced game," Micir said. 'We know that. There will be a lot of threes thrown up in that game. I think we have to make sure we control the boards and do what we do well."
