Lehigh Falls to Monmouth in First Round of WNIT

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. - Lehigh fell to Monmouth, 72-62, Thursday evening in the first round of the WNIT. With the win, Monmouth advances to the second round and will face Cleveland State on Monday at 7 p.m. in Cleveland.
The Mountain Hawks' season comes to a close with a 17-15 overall record and an 11-7 mark in Patriot League play, capping off a hard-fought year.
Lehigh was led by Belle Bramer, who went 8-for-14 from the field to score 19 points. Over four postseason games, Bramer averaged 20 points per game while shooting 59% from the field.
For Monmouth, Alexis Andrews, Gigi Gamble and Divine Dibula each scored 15-plus points, led by Dibula's game-high 20 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field.
As a team, the Hawks shot 55% from the field and 40% from 3-point range, compared to Lehigh's 44% shooting and 6-for-28 from beyond the arc.
A 3-pointer from senior Lily Fandre, who finished with nine points, tied the game at seven with just over six minutes remaining in the first quarter. Monmouth closed the period on a 9-2 run to take a 16-9 lead into the second quarter.
A layup by Bramer, followed by a 3-pointer from Alana Reddy and another from Leia Edwards, capped a 10-0 run to start the second quarter, giving Lehigh a three-point lead with 7:11 remaining. The teams traded baskets over the rest of the period, and Monmouth held a 29-28 advantage heading into halftime.
Monmouth jumped out to a fast start in the third quarter, building their lead to 12 points with just over six minutes remaining. The Mountain Hawks battled back, and a layup by Gracyn Lovette to close the quarter capped a 7-0 run, cutting the deficit to just four heading into the fourth, 50-46.
The Hawks controlled the fourth quarter, hitting 7-of-8 shots from the field as a team and outscoring Lehigh 22-16 to secure a 72-62 victory in the first round of the WNIT.
