Mountain Hawks Close Out Homestand Saturday Versus Siena

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following a weekend off from competition the Lehigh women's tennis team will be back on the courts Saturday when the Mountain Hawks welcome Siena to the Lewis Tennis Center for a 5 p.m. match. Saturday's match will mark the fifth and final contest of Lehigh's spring season-opening homestand.

In its last action back on Feb. 12, Lehigh edged Howard 4-3 for its first win of the spring season. The Mountain Hawks dropped the doubles point but battled back with four singles wins to claim the match. Sophomore Hamsa Javagal won at the top singles flight to put Lehigh on the board and after the Mountain Hawks fell behind 3-1, Lehigh won at the bottom three flights to earn the victory. A win from sophomore Allyce Gaborik at No. 4 started the comeback, while first-year Helena Cilella won at No. 6 to tie the match at 3-3. Junior Anushka Dania won in three sets at the No. 5 flight, rallying from a set down to give the Mountain Hawks the win.

Dania owns a 4-1 record this season in singles with all of her matches coming at the No. 5 spot. Javagal and junior Megha Dania own 3-2 singles marks playing at the top two flights. Megha and Anushka Dania have been the top doubles team, with a 2-3 mark so far this season.

Siena is 3-5 on the season and the Saints will play at Bucknell Friday before visiting Lehigh on Saturday. The Saints went 2-1 last weekend with wins over Lafayette and Providence and a 4-3 loss to Bryant.

The Mountain Hawks and Saints met last season with Lehigh claiming a 4-3 win inside the Lewis Tennis Center. Lehigh lost the doubles point but picked up singles victories from Javagal, the Dania sisters and Junmoke James.

Following Saturday's match, Lehigh will hit the road for the first time to open Patriot League play at Holy Cross, Saturday March 4 at 4 p.m.
