Lehigh to Gear Up for Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After a two week break from competition, the Lehigh women's swimming and diving team is headed back to Bucknell for the Patriot League Championships, which is the biggest meet of the year. The Patriot League Championships run Wednesday through Saturday at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium.

The Mountain Hawks finished in fifth place last year and will look to build off of a strong season. Lehigh was 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League dual meets.

Sophomore Sarah Gill, who has had an incredible season so far, is the No. 3 seed out of 36 divers in the one-meter dive. Her best score this season was 284.84 points, and she sits just one point behind Army's Minh Donnell for the second-best time.

Lehigh's Sydney Izakson is also competing in the one-meter dive. She is the 20th seed, and her best score this year was 241.13.

Gill and Izakson will also be partaking in the three-meter dive, which concludes on Saturday.

The Mountain Hawks have five people competing in the 500-yard freestyle. First-year Mairin Ludwig leads the way with a time of 4:56.05. Natalie Martin, Willa Werwaiss, Dagny Donaldson, Maggie Mikalic will be the other five Lehigh swimmers in the event.

Martin is the only returner from last year who made the All-Patriot League team.  She was on the second team after picking up 34 total points in the Patriot League Championships last year.

Sarah Hardy has had an incredible season so far, and has the third-best time entering the meet in the 200-yard butterfly (1:59.02). Hardy is also swimming in the 200-yard IM and the 400-yard IM.

Most of the team will not be competing on Wednesday since it's only the men's three-meter diving trials, the 200 medley relays and the 800 freestyle relays.

The first event is set to take off at 2 p.m., and the 200-medley relay finals are scheduled for 6 p.m.

Lehigh has the seventh-best time in the 200-yard medley relay team with a time of 1:44.70. The Mountain Hawks are fifth in the 900-freestyle relay team. Their best time was 7:32.05.

On Thursday is when the individual events will start for the men. The preliminary session begins at 10 a.m. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and the finals will start at 6 p.m.

The women's 1-meter diving trials will start at 1 p.m. on Thursday as well.
