
Lehigh Set To See Outside Competition At Princeton Open Sunday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh wrestling will officially kick off its 2023-24 campaign on Sunday when the Mountain Hawks send a large contingent to the Princeton Open at Jadwin Gym. As many as 35 Mountain Hawks could compete either attached or unattached in the first of two tournaments to begin the season.

Wrestling begins at 9 a.m. from Jadwin Gym in New Jersey. Princeton will have 12 mats of wrestling action. Streaming video of every mat will be available on ESPN+ while brackets and live scoring can be found on FloArena.

Wrestlers from as many as 19 teams are expected to compete at the Princeton Open with the likes of Army West Point, Bloomsburg, Hofstra, Lock Haven, Princeton, Rider and Rutgers joining Lehigh and host Princeton.

Last year Lehigh had 19 entrants at the Princeton Open, including six place winners. Thayne Lawrence led the way with a runner-up finish at 174. Drew Munch and Luca Frinzi took third at 149 and 165, respectively. Sheldon Seymour finished fifth at 125 and Jack Wilt (184) and Karam Chakif (285) both claimed sixth place.

Next weekend, the Mountain Hawks will compete at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic, Sunday, Nov. 12 at nearby Freedom High School, with the annual round-robin event beginning at 9 a.m. The dual meet season begins Nov. 19 when No. 19 Lehigh welcomes No. 16 Pittsburgh to Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall for a 2 p.m. match.
