BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's lacrosse team is set to continue its busy stretch on Saturday when it hosts Wagner at 12 p.m. in the first game of a Lehigh women's and men's lacrosse doubleheader. The game can be seen live on ESPN+. The Mountain Hawks will look to continue the momentum from their 13-5 home-opening win over La Salle on Wednesday. Saturday is the second of three home games in seven days for Lehigh.
Â
The busy stretch also includes a neutral site game vs. Coastal Carolina next Friday, meaning Lehigh will play four games in 10 days. The stretch began on a positive note, with the Mountain Hawks jumping out to a 3-0 lead over La Salle after one quarter, and despite the Explorers pulling even at three, Lehigh scored nine of the next 10 goals to pull away.
Â
It marked the second straight season the Mountain Hawks earned their first win of the season over La Salle, after a 9-6 road victory last year. Lehigh also won its home opener for the fourth time in the last six seasons.
Â
Junior Gabby Schneider led the offense with five goals and two assists. It marked her third straight season with seven points against La Salle, tallying six goals and an assist in each of her first two seasons against the Explorers. On Wednesday, Schneider eclipsed 50-career goals, 50-career assists and 100-career points, all in the same game. Lehigh's starting attack combined for 11 goals and seven assists, with sophomore Olivia Memeger adding three goals and an assist, junior Katia Carnevale tallying two goals and two assists and junior Emma Eberhardt recording a goal and two assists.
Â
Sophomore Hayley Hunt was stellar in goal, recording a career-high 17 saves, including stopping all six shots sent her way in the first quarter. She now leads the nation in saves per game (14.67) and is second in save percentage (57.9).
Â
Saturday will mark just the third-ever meeting between Lehigh and Wagner, with the teams playing in 2017 and 2018 and each winning on their home field.
Â
Wagner stands 0-4 on the season, but has had some close contests - with three of the losses coming by four goals or fewer. Lehigh's defeats have come against Drexel (18-7), Fairfield (12-10), Manhattan (14-11) and Vermont (10-6). Madeline Seims leads Wagner in goals (7) and points (8) while Kasey Dorney (six goals, one assist) and Maria Henwood (five goals, two assists) each own seven points. Dorney also leads the team in groundballs (11) and draw controls (12) while three Seahawks own six caused turnovers apiece. Lauren DiStefano has played every minute in goal, tallying a 13.50 goals against average and 51.4 save percentage.
Â
Lehigh and Wagner have split the only two meetings between the two sides. The Mountain Hawks won at home in 2017, 12-9, before Wagner bounced back to win 15-11 in Staten Island.
Â
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks remain home on Tuesday to host Siena at 3 p.m. on ESPN+.
