3/26/2022 8:41:00 PM | Women's Lacrosse
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's lacrosse team jumped out to a 3-0 lead after one quarter and led 6-4 at the half, but No. 17 Navy ended the game on a 6-0 run to down the Mountain Hawks, 11-7 on Saturday afternoon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. Junior Katia Carnevale led the offense with her second straight hat trick, while classmate Emma Eberhardt had two goals, one assist and a game-high six draw controls (as the Mountain Hawks held a 13-9 edge in draws). Sophomore goalkeeper Hayley Hunt was sensational, tying a career-high 17 saves in the defeat.
Â
Eberhardt is now up to 49 goals, 49 assists and 98 points for her career. Carnevale's three goals give her 94 career points. Sophomore Gabby Schneider's two assists were the 67th and 68th of her career, to move into sole possession of third place in program history.
Â
Defensively, senior Emma McGillis had three groundballs while first year Lauren Warfield added two. Junior Cassie Marte tallied an assist and four draw controls. In the end, the Mountain Hawks held Navy to its second-lowest goal total of the season.
Â
Lehigh jumped out to a 3-0 lead after 15 minutes of play, behind goals from Eberhardt, senior Nora Giordano and sophomore Olivia Memeger – all in the span of 42 seconds (8:16, 7:53 and 7:34 marks). Hunt stood tall in the first, stopping all six shots sent her way.
Â
Final shots were 35-30 in favor of Navy while the Mids held a 23-11 edge in groundballs. Lehigh finished with a 13-9 advantage in draw controls. Hunt's 17 saves came across Navy's Jo Torres, who had 11.
Â
The Mountain Hawks return to action for a big showdown at Army West Point on Wednesday in a rematch of last season's Patriot League Semifinals. Gametime is set for 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
