Mountain Hawks Defeat Marist in Season Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's tennis team opened the spring season against Marist Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks beat Marist in the dual-meet 4-3. Lehigh lost the doubles point but came back to win four singles matches to earn a victory in its season opener for the third straight year.

"I'm very happy with our performance today," said head coach Sarah Hendrix. "We played with a lot of heart and fought hard all the way through the very end of the match. This team is resilient and has a lot of heart and I believe both will serve us well this season."
 
Junior Junmoke James and first-year Hamsa Javagal won the first doubles match for Lehigh but Marist grabbed the next two. Sophomores Leighanna Moskos, Anushka Dania, Megha Dania and Javagal all won in singles action. 

Going into Moskos' singles match, Lehigh and Marist were tied at 3-3. The sophomore showed no signs of nerves as she stepped up and gave the Mountain Hawks their first win of the 2022 season, rallying from a set down to defeat Lea Lambert 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 5 flight.

Javagal was the only Mountain Hawk that won in both doubles and singles.

The Mountain Hawks will host Stony Brook next Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center with the match set for a 2 p.m. start.
