
Barton's Third Place Finish Paces Mountain Hawks At Patriot League Championship

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Sophomore Sam Barton tied for third place, earning first team All-Patriot League honors to lead the Lehigh men's golf team at the Patriot League Championship, which wrapped up Sunday at the Naval Academy Golf Club. Barton shot 73 in Sunday's final round to finish in as part of a six-way tie for third place at 11 over par 221 (77-71-73).
As a team, Lehigh shot 300 Sunday, its best round of the 54 hole championship to finish sixth in the eight team field at 921 (313-308-300).
Barton made a double bogey on his first hole of the day (No. 10) but bounced back with birdies on 13 and 15. He shot 37 on his first nine and one over par 36 on the back nine in his final round 73.
Lehigh's next-lowest round Sunday came from freshman Marco Arosemena, who shot four over 74, with 12 pars and a birdie on the par 5 13th hole. Arosemena finished in 40th place at 245 (84-87-74).
Sophomore Joey Dotta was Lehigh's No. 2 finisher, tying for 24th place at 233 (78-78-77). Dotta made one birdie in his final round, on the par 4 sixth hole. Two strokes behind Dotta was sophomore David Hurly, who tied for 27th at 235 (81-78-76).
Senior Owen Quinn, playing in his final event for the brown and white, tied for 33rd place at 237 (77-81-79).
On a day where all six Lehigh entrants broke 80, freshman Edmund Broderick also carded a 79 to tie for 43rd place at 250 (85-86-79). Broderick made one birdie in his final round.
Loyola captured the team title at 866 (288-288-290), 18 strokes better than Navy, which edged Lafayette by one stroke for second place.
The Greyhounds also had the top two individual finishers in individual champion Brandon Berry (69-70-72-211) and runner-up Evan Brown (71-72-71-215). The cluster of third place finishers were 10 strokes off the lead.
The Mountain Hawks will lose just one player, fifth-year senior Owen Quinn, to graduation with the remainder of the roster consisting of first and second year student-athletes.
